Adware and Spyware Software Review


Adware and Spyware have recently become the number one threat to your computer, online privacy and performance of your computer. CNN has estimated that over 90% of all computers that are on the internet are infected with these viruses. These go by various names including trojans, web bugs, advertiser software and monitoring software.

What is Adware or Sypware?

These are small files that are created by publishers to track your activity on the internet. They can record where you go, your purchases, send those extremely annoying popup ads and even get your credit card number. They are also known as "malware." These can be put on your harddrive even while you don't know it (so-called "drive by" download).

Is your computer running slow or do you have annoying popups?

If your computer is running slow and / or you get a lot of annoying popups, chances are your computer is infected. In this age of the internet it would be unusual if you weren't infected. These programs slow down your computer and slow your surfing activities because they are "recording" all of your movements on the internet.

What you can do?

Fortunately today, there are some good adware/spyware removal programs. We have surveyed the current literature in addition to our own experience and have the following recommendations. It is a good idea to use one of the programs that has been used a lot by others and therefore has been adequately "tested." One final caveat ... while it is free to scan your computer for adware and spyware, there is a charge for the software that removes it.

Choice Number One: NoAdware

Choice Number Two: Xoftspy

Coming in at number two is Xoftspy. This is an excellent adware/spyware removal program and it may even remove a few more types of spyware than our number one choice. It is however, somewhat less user friendly and requires a little more work to optimize its capability. It also includes a free scan.

Choice Number Three: Alert Spy

Alert Spy is another good choice and a very reliable program. It does a great job of eliminating adware and spyware parasites from your computer and is very easy to use. The beginner option actually allows you to click and forget.

Choice Number Four: Spyware Nuker

One of the top rated adware/spyware programs of 2004. It has a simple layout that makes it easy to eliminate adware and spyware from your system. It also features the ability to schedule regular scans to detect adware or spyware before it can have any serious effects.

Choice Number Five: PCorian

This is another great choice although it has not been as widely used and distributed as NoAdware. It does an excellent job of adware/spyware removal and is easy to use.
